The Perfect Summer and Professional Waxing

The perfect summer includes breezy dresses, bikinis, T-shirts, shorts, and sun-kissed, silky-smooth skin.

Professional waxing is more popular than ever, offering a relaxing and time-saving alternative to shaving during vacation. However, customers must avoid shaving a few days before their appointment to ensure optimal results.

To achieve long-lasting smooth skin, hair should be at least 1–2 millimetres long, depending on the wax and technique used. For most clients, this requires allowing hair to grow for 4–8 days after their last shave. Some find this period frustrating, as they are accustomed to shaving daily or at least three times a week and dislike leaving stubble. How can we still professionally wax these customers and prepare them for their summer holidays without a razor? Here are a few practical tips:

Timing Is Key

First, the client’s waxing appointment should align with the start of their vacation. Since many clients travel during the high season, organising the schedule efficiently and managing bookings carefully is essential.

Can clients go on vacation immediately after waxing? No. Waxed areas should avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours to prevent skin irritation, as freshly waxed skin is particularly sensitive. Excessive sweating should also be minimized during this time, which can be challenging in summer heat.

The ideal time for waxing is 2–3 days before the vacation starts. This allows the skin to recover while still providing smooth results throughout the trip. Clients should be informed precisely when to stop shaving to ensure the required hair length for waxing.

Choosing the Right Wax

Short hair provides a limited surface area for wax to grip. For clients who cannot let their hair grow out, using high-performance wax with strong adhesion is crucial. Traditional waxes based on beeswax are often ineffective for removing very short hairs.

Modern hot waxes, however, can effectively remove hair as short as 1 millimetre, particularly on the face, underarms, and intimate areas. These waxes adhere more strongly than older versions and work well even on thick, coarse hairs. With these advancements, even the shortest underarm hair can be removed just four days after shaving—a true game-changer for summer.

Communicating Benefits to Clients

“Dear client, with my professional waxing techniques and high-quality products, I only need a short hair length. After waxing, you’ll enjoy at least three weeks without shaving during your vacation. Additionally, your hair will grow back finer and feel softer, leaving you wonderfully comfortable. What areas would you like to have waxed?”

Proper Wax Preparation

To achieve the best results, wax must be heated and applied correctly:

  • Heat the Wax

    • Place wax beads into a suitable heater, filling it one-third to one-half full.

    • Modern waxes have a low application temperature, around 37°C, with a honey-like consistency when ready.

    • Stir the wax thoroughly before use to ensure even temperature distribution.

  • Temperature Control

    • If the wax is too cool, it remains too hard to coat hair effectively.

    • If overheated, it may cause sweating, reducing its adhesion.

Application and Removal Techniques

For extremely short hair, the “combing technique” works well:

  1. Apply wax against the hair growth direction with firm pressure to lift and coat the hair.

  2. Hold the spatula like a pen to create a thicker edge for easy removal.

  3. Allow wax patches to set for 7-10 seconds before removing them against the direction of application.

  4. Try Top Line Hybrid Wax by Italwax - it was created with pre-shaved hair in mind

Post-treatment Care

Once the waxing is complete, apply a soothing after-treatment cream to hydrate and calm the skin while promoting follicle closure.

For vacation care, recommend:

  • Clear Silver Fluid ( or another Microsilver cream) Reduces the risk of folliculitis and protects irritated skin.

  • Exfoliating glove: Prevents ingrown hairs and ensures even skin tone. Exfoliated skin tans more uniformly, enhancing the holiday glow.

Some clients may have a “shaving habit” and struggle to let their hair grow out.

However, with modern waxing techniques and advanced waxes, even short hair can be managed effectively. A few days of patience can lead to several weeks of silky-smooth skin, ensuring clients enjoy their summer vacation to the fullest.
